Is it necessary to register for trekking?
Yes, it is a must to register for trekking for security reasons. This registration allows the relief commission, National Parks, and the Andean club have control of walkers in the area and can provide assistance in case of emergency. Registration can be done at this link.
What level of difficulty is the trekking?
Trekking has a medium level of difficulty during the summer due to the terrain condition and the most favorable climate. In winter, the level of difficulty is higher due to snow, ice and low temperatures, require more experience and appropriate equipment.
How long is the walk?
In summer, the walk lasts between 3 and 4 hours, depending on the pace of the walk and the stops made. In winter, due to more complex conditions, the walk can last approximately 6 hours.
What clothes do I need to wear?
It is essential to wear trekking clothing and footwear suitable for mountain conditions. In addition, we recommend bringing a suitable backpack, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and trekking poles. During winter, it is important to bring additional warm clothing and snow equipment such as crampons and/or snowshoes.
Can I refill water on the way?
Yes, during the journey there are several water courses where you can refill water. We recommend bringing a reusable bottle.
Do you rent sleeping bags?
Yes, we rent sleeping bags. It is important that you notify us in advance to guarantee availability.
Can I leave the car in the Cerro Catedral parking lot?
Yes, you can leave your car in the Cerro Catedral parking lot. However, parking is under the responsibility of the walker. We recommend not to leave valuables in the vehicle and securing it well before starting the trek.
Is there vegetarian and vegan food?
Yes, at the shelter we offer both vegetarian and vegan food options.
Can you make a campfire?
No, it is strictly prohibited to make bonfires in the entire refuge area. This is due to the regulations of the Nahuel Huapi National Park and the prevention of forest fires.
Can I swim in the lagoon?
No, it is not allowed to go into the lagoon. It is important to preserve the purity of the water and the ecosystem of the area.
Is the use of the kitchen allowed?
No, kitchen use is not allowed inside the shelter because of the limited space. We do offer hot water in exchange for visitors bringing down a bottle of LOVE made from recycled plastics.
Can I use the portable stove inside the shelter?
No, it is prohibited to use stoves inside the shelter as it can be dangerous and create fire risks.
Is it necessary to bring a tent?
Yes, it is necessary to bring a tent. However, on summer nights, you can choose to bivouac (sleep outdoors) and gaze at the stars. Make sure you are well equipped for any changes in weather.
Does the shelter have toilet paper?
No, each person must bring their own toilet paper. We also recommend bringing bags for your trash, in order to keep the natural environment clean.

Can dogs be brought?
No, dogs are not allowed. This helps protect local wildlife and maintain the safety and cleanliness of the area.
Can you fly drones?
No, it is prohibited to fly drones within the national park. This regulation helps preserve the tranquility and well-being of wildlife and other visitors.
Does the shelter have showers?
No, we do not have showers at the shelter. We suggest to plan your visit taking this limitation into account and bring items for your personal hygiene.
What benefits do members of the Club Andino Bariloche have?
Members of the Club Andino Bariloche who have been there for more than six months and are up to date with the payment of membership fees, enjoy the benefits detailed below. These benefits are individual for each member and cannot be used by companions.
– 80% discount on the published rate for overnight stays at the refuge.
– 30% discount on products and services made/provided at the shelterdiscount on products and services made/provided at the shelter
– Applies up to a maximum of 3 nights and/or daily use per shelter/campsite during the month.
– Children under 10 years old, inclusive, have a 50% discount on overnight stays and dinner.
How to make a reservation if I am a member of the Club Andino Bariloche?
The member must pay the payment for the entire night through the reservation program. Once at the shelter, you must present a valid membership card with an up-to-date membership fee and the corresponding amount will be refunded. You can also use this amount as credit for other consumption.
