Enjoy the mountain Refuge and its activities
throughout the year

Spring: Thaw and flowers

The temperatures begin to rise little by little.

It is observed in the mountains that the snow slowly disappears, some evaporates and some melts thus causing new streams everywhere. These little streams all head to the same place, the Toncek Lagoon, filling it with water and increasing its level. In turn, this causes the stream that comes out of the lagoon to also grow. In short, it is a time of a lot of water. Along the path we can find several streams full of water, with which we can hydrate ourselves during the walk.

Summer: Trekking & climbing

With an air renewed by spring, trekking and climbing lovers arrive at the Frey refuge every day.

The pleasant temperatures and the bright sun without clouds in the sky invite people to come to the refuge. These temperatures are the cause of droughts, something to keep in mind because we will no longer have streams on the path to be able to hydrate ourselves, it is important that we take at least 1.5 liters of water on the hike, plus delicious and sweet things to keep us going. with energy.

Autumn: Colors and landscapes

Autumn is the season of the year with the greatest amount of rain.

In Bariloche and the Frey Refuge, entire days and sometimes weeks can pass where clouds and rain abound, without letting the sun’s rays pass through, this is when loneliness becomes present in Frey and does not want to leave. The rain and clouds keep the special magic of this time hidden, and when the sun appears and the landscapes are revealed after that thick gray fog, the typical and special colors of the autumn forests appear. The Lengas and the Ñires are dyed in yellow, orange and red, with crystalline glow due to the water drops that rest on the leaves of the trees.

Peace, solitude and the colors of autumn magic mark the days in the corners of Frey.

Winter: Winter sports

The snow comes and covers everything.

Starts gently painting the peaks of white, day by day the white color is seen closer and closer, until one day the shelter is covered in a large blanket of snow. The snowfall continues, and this means that the entire path to the base of Cerro Catedral, and sometimes even further down, is covered in snow.

Of course, the trail is often unwalkable until the snow melts or becomes compacted, or someone passes through it, generating the first footprint, which all the visitors who follow behind will be grateful. After heavy snowfalls, loneliness is the only visitor that comes to the shelter and stays for a few days.
