Acceso desde la base del C° Catedral
Parte baja (primeros 4 kilómetros), sendero en buen estado, con barro.
Sector medio (entre el cruce de senderos y Piedritas): Sendero con 5cm de nieve nueva y manchones de hielo. Precaución con el hielo.
Sector superior (desde Piedritas hasta el refugio): Acumulación de entre 5 y 10 cm de nieve nueva. Precaución con ultimo cruce de arroyo antes de llegar al refugio.

El tiempo estimado para el ascenso varía según la capacidad física, calculándose entre 4 y 6 horas. En esta época del año disponemos de menor cantidad de horas de luz solar. Comenzar a caminar antes de las 10 a.m.

A continuación, les brindamos algunas recomendaciones:

Para ascender al refugio Frey es imprescindible contar con el siguiente equipo: calzado para nieve (botas), bastones con roseta, guantes, abrigo invernal (remera térmica, buzo polar/micropolar, campera de pluma/sintética, campera de lluvia, cubre pantalón y muda de recambio). No olvidar la linterna frontal (debido a la poca luz en esta época).

El acceso desde Lago Gutiérrez está despejado y con buena transitabilidad general.

Llevar radio VHF y botiquín de primeros auxilios.

Realizar el registro de trekking gratuito y obligatorio en el sitio web oficial de APN: www.nahuelhuapi.gov.ar o en www.clubandino.org/registro-de-trekking.

Sumamente importante verificar el pronóstico meteorológico en https://www.windguru.cz/377964. antes de subir o reservar en el refugio.

Access via Catedral:

• Lower section (first 4 kilometers): trail in good condition, with mud.
• Middle section (between the trail junction and Piedritas): Trail with 5 cm of new snow and patches of ice. Caution with the ice.
• Upper section (from Piedritas to the hut): Accumulation of 5 to 10 cm of new snow. Caution at the last stream crossing before reaching the hut.

Estimated time for the ascent varies depending on physical condition, ranging between 4 and 6 hours. This time of year has fewer daylight hours. Start your hike before 10:00 a.m.

Some recommendations:
To ascend to Refugio Frey, the following gear is essential: snow footwear (boots), trekking poles with snow baskets, gloves, winter clothing (thermal base layer, fleece/microfleece sweater, down/synthetic jacket, rain jacket, overpants, and a change of clothes). Don’t forget a headlamp (due to limited daylight this season)

Bring a VHF radio and a first aid kit.
