Acceso desde la base del C° Catedral
Parte baja (primeros 5 kilómetros) Sendero con manchones de nieve, barro y agua.
Sector medio (entre el cruce de senderos y Piedritas): Sendero con tramos de nieve y tierra. En piedritas hay un desvió de sendero marcado con marcas azules. Son 200metros de zona abierta y luego estar atentos a la entrada al bosque.
Sector superior (desde Piedritas hasta el refugio): Sendero cubierto de nieve, está firme por la mañana, pero con el sol y aumento de temperaturas afloja, necesario el uso de raquetas o esquíes. El último kilómetro las marcas son rojas y blancas.

En invierno, los días son más cortos, las temperaturas son bajas, el clima es más inestable y cambiante. Planifica tu salida con el pronóstico (viento, temperatura, precipitacion, visibilidad). Salí temprano, lleva el equipo invernal adecuado: calzado tipo bota de trekking/montaña con buena suela, polainas, bastones con roseta ancha, abrigo extra y ropa impermeable, guantes, lentes de sol. Linterna. Raquetas o esquíes de travesía.

El tiempo estimado para el ascenso varía según la capacidad física, calculándose entre 4 y 6 horas. Se recomienda comenzar a caminar antes de las 10 a.m.

Para ascender al refugio Frey es imprescindible contar con el siguiente equipo: botas de trekking, abrigo (remera térmica, buzo polar/micropolar, campera de pluma/sintética, campera de lluvia y muda de recambio). No olvidar la linterna frontal.

El acceso desde Lago Gutiérrez está con barro y nieve hasta el cruce de picada.

Llevar radio VHF y botiquín de primeros auxilios.

Access from the base of Cerro Catedral

Lower section (first 5 kilometers): Trail with sections of snow, mud, and water. In the morning, the snow is harder, and later it becomes softer.

Middle section (between the trail junction and Piedritas): The trail is completely covered with snow, with a hard, compacted track. The use of crampons makes the hike easier. At Piedritas, there is a trail detour marked with blue markers. There are 200 meters of open terrain; after that, pay close attention to the entrance to the forest.

Upper section (from Piedritas to the refuge): The trail is covered with snow. It is firm in the morning, but as the sun comes out and temperatures rise, the snow softens. Snowshoes or touring skis are necessary. During the last kilometer, the trail is marked with red-and-white markers.

In winter, the days are shorter, temperatures are lower, and the weather is more unstable and changeable. Plan your hike according to the weather forecast, paying attention to wind, temperature, precipitation, and visibility. Start early and bring appropriate winter equipment: sturdy hiking or mountaineering boots with good traction, gaiters, trekking poles, extra warm clothing, waterproof outerwear, gloves, sunglasses, and a headlamp. Snowshoes or backcountry (touring) skis are required.

The estimated time for the ascent varies depending on physical ability, calculated between 4 and 6 hours. It is recommended to start hiking before 10 a.m.

Some recommendations:
To ascend to Refugio Frey, it is essential to have the following gear: trekking boots, warm clothing (thermal shirt, fleece/microfleece, down/synthetic jacket, rain jacket, rain pants, and a change of clothes). Don’t forget a headlamp.

Bring a VHF radio and a first aid kit.
